Stem Cell User Group, formed in 2005.
The Stem Cell User Group (SCUG) has been active since 2005.
It was formed to respond to new legislation, namely The Human Tissue Act and JACIE (The Joint Accreditation Committee ISCT-Europe & EBMT) requirements in the bone marrow and stem cell transplantation sectors. The SCUG was originally geared toward helping laboratory and quality managers and began as a small meeting comprised of centres from the Midlands and the SE of England. The meeting rapidly gained national exposure and has been hosted in centres throughout the UK and Ireland.
From the original 10 members there is now a large online e-mail based forum of 250+ members. Additionally, two meetings are held per annum with a changing host centre each meeting. The Society for Low Temperature Biology workshop in Seville in 2019 was the first foray into mainland Europe with other international meetings planned to follow.

What We Do
The Stem Cell User Group (SCUG) is a not-for-profit organisation and seeks to continue to be run at no cost to its members. Both the HTA (Human Tissue Authority) and JACIE suggest that the SCUG is the most applicable meeting for scientists, quality managers and staff involved in stem cell and bone marrow transplantation. Therefore educational and CPD requirements can be supplemented through attendance. The SCUG is a friendly meeting where junior staff members are welcomed to hone their presentation skills. Recently the rapid developments in cellular therapies has had a positive impact on the diverse nature of presentations this meeting has to offer. It is an evolving meeting and benefits from all that its members bring to it.
